About The Red Hook Ramblers:
Brooklyn's premier dixieland band, the Red Hook Ramblers first
appeared on New York's revitalized traditional jazz scene in
2005 and rapidly found themselves among its leading torchbearers.
They have been repeatedly honored to perform at the Louis Armstrong
House Museum to celebrate Satchmo's birthday and have been
interviewed and featured on New York radio and television stations,
as well as on Time Out New York's website. The Ramblers opened
for Squirrel Nut Zippers during their Fall 2009 tour, and performed
at the Meilemer Jazz Festival outside of Zurich as part of
their own tour of Switzerland in the Spring of 2010. The New
York Jets hired the band to entertain the fans before their
2010 home games at the New Meadowlands Stadium. The Thomas
Edison National History Park asked the band to have a public
wax cylinder recording session using a 1908 Edison phonograph.
The band has appeared at notorious Jazz Age parties Shanghai
Mermaid, Wit's End, and Dances of Vice, and have made a name
for themselves as New York's premier live burlesque accompaniment
through their residencies at the Slipper Room and Galapagos
Art Space's Floating Kabarette, as well as appearances with
Sugar Shack Burlesque and Harvest Moon's vaudeville productions.
Members of the band have played with the Eddy Davis New Orleans
Jazz Band, Les Paul, and the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, and
have performed at the annual Bix Beiderbecke festival near
where the trumpet virtuoso died in Queens, NY. The Red Hook
Ramblers are intent on preserving the spirit of the music that
permanently changed the American cultural landscape in the
early part of the 20th Century and bringing live traditional
jazz to new audiences around the world.
"Brooklyn's excellent Red Hook Ramblers make vintage
jazz that conjures a delicious speakeasy vibe: You're just
a step away from flappers, fancy shoes and illicit booze." –
Time Out New York Magazine
"Said to be Brooklyn’s premier
Dixieland band, the Red Hook Ramblers are animated and larger
than life, and are as delightful to watch as they are to listen
to. United by their collective passion for the time-honored
musical genres of classic jazz, blues, spirituals and ragtime,
the Ramblers take pride in performing this compelling music
of a by-gone era."
